Mother and accomplice arrested in Live Oak child abuse case

β€œOn 4/10/2024 around 3:30 PM our Dispatch Unit received a call for suspected child abuse in the 9000 block of Maple Park in Live Oak. The reporter stated that a 4-year-old child had significant facial injuries. This incident is said to have occurred the same day around 8:30 am and the mother, a 38 year old Christina Brokenbrough of Live Oak, was advised to call police, but she did not. Once on scene, officers confirmed the extremities of the minor’s injuries and she was transported to Adventist Health and Ride Out Medical Center, and later transported to UC Davis Medical for further assessment, non-life threatening. At the time of this press release, the youth is no longer in medical care and is safe. Investigative measures were taken and the suspect was identified as a 27-year-old Jamahl Alqahhaar of Yuba City. Alqahhaar fled the scene prior to officers’ arrival and was located by our detective in Biggs. Alqahhaar was taken into custody and booked into the Sutter County Jail for excessive force, bodily injury to a child, attempted murder and child abuse causing serious bodily injury/death. The mother, Brokenbrough, was arrested and charged with corporal injury to a child and child abuse causing serious bodily harm/death.”
