Saker ShopRites sets opening date for new South Plainfield supermarket

Saker ShopRites is set to open its newest supermarket in Central Jersey.

Located at 6781 Hadley Road at Hadley Commons Plaza in South Plainfield, the 93,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art store is scheduled to open May 8 following a 7 am ribbon cutting.

As part of the festivities, the first 200 customers in line for the opening will receive special grocery gift bags filled with product samples and coupons. At 10:30 am, food trucks Tru Fru Food, Deep Foods and Mrs. T’s Pierogies will arrive in the parking lot to offer free samples to shoppers.

The celebration also includes giveaways, such as a chance to win a $100 ShopRite gift card or a new Weber grill. For more information, visit the store’s Facebook page.

Additionally, family-owned grocer Saker will present a donation to the Community FoodBank of New Jersey.

Rick Saker, senior vice president of the company, commented, “Opening a new store is always a big moment for us because it represents our commitment to provide fresh, quality products and exceptional service in a state-of-the-art store.”

“We are excited to welcome our customers to this new location and are kicking it off with a great celebration that will include special store happenings throughout the month of May,” he said.

Sneak peek

The upcoming location’s wide selection of groceries features locally sourced products and fresh produce. It includes an expanded line of international foods, such as Southeast Asian, Kosher and Halal.

The ShopRite will also have:

• Bakery with special occasion cakes and freshly made bread
• Meat department with trained butchers
• Seafood department with daily fresh catch deliveries
• Full service deli department
• Floral shop
• Prepared foods area with hot and cold food bars
• Pharmacy

ShopRite’s online shopping service, Order.Pickup.Deliver, will be available, too.

A member of Keasbey-based retailer co-op Wakefern Food Corp., Saker is one of New Jersey’s largest supermarket operators. Its footprint includes 39 ShopRite stores in Monmouth, Ocean, Somerset, Middlesex, Mercer and Somerset counties, as well as Dearborn Market in Holmdel, 39 pharmacies, two liquor stores, four commissary kitchens and a transit dock facility that supports its local stores.

The new store in South Plainfield will replace Saker’s existing ShopRite on Centennial Avenue in Piscataway, which will permanently close May 7 at 6 pm
