Meghalaya CM assures that government is taking steps to contain prevailing law and order situation after frequent arsons

Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Friday assured that the government is taking steps to contain the prevailing law and order situation due to frequent arson incidents.

Speaking to reporters on Friday, Sangma said certain incidents have taken place and the government was committed to ensuring that all necessary steps to be taken to arrest persons involved in certain incidents were based on pure evidence and facts .

“And because of that we expected that there would be some reaction. So we have to be very clear that this is in response to a certain reaction or a certain action that has taken place and therefore we were not surprised as such,” he added.

“Yes, it happens very often, but we are very aware of it and we are working to ensure that none of these incidents happen. The police have taken further steps but I don’t want to go into details,” Sangma said.

He said: “The police are on the job and we are very confident that the situation will be under control and I assure the people of the city and the state that the government is doing everything possible to ensure that these incidents are brought under are kept under control and that they ‘will not happen in the future’.

When asked, the CM said, “It (the incidents) happened after that, but as I said, we have to jump to conclusions and say that without basing it on facts and evidence, these individuals would be wrong as the government cannot continue to speculate or the police cannot continue to speculate. acting on the basis of speculation and on the basis of a logical connection and saying this is what is happening, it should be based on facts and evidence and so after the facts and evidence are there, the government has certainly taken action in the past and will it take action in the past. also the future.”

Sangma said the government and police will not spare anyone who commits a crime.

“Based on the general fact that no one can take the law into their hands, the police and the government will follow the law and if someone commits a crime, the law has procedures in place to take action against the people who commit crimes and therefore not about any organization or anyone from any particular group or that group, it’s purely based on crime and purely based on law and purely based on evidence and that’s how we’ve moved forward and that’s how we’ll move forward too in the future,” he said.
