Former prosecutor notices ‘oddity’ in Trump’s defense: One of his lawyers isn’t talking

Former federal prosecutor Andrew Weissmann says Trump’s lawyers’ hearing could reveal something important.

Speaking to MSNBC’s Nicolle Wallace on Thursday, Weissmann noted that one of Trump’s lawyers, Susan Necheles is an “experienced lawyer,” but she has played a minimal role in the trial itself so far, being “at the end of the table.”

That’s notable because of something another Trump attorney, Emil Bove, admitted to Judge Juan Merchan during a sidebar, as Raw Story reported. He “said to the judge, ‘This is the first cross-examination I’ve done as a lawyer,'” Weissmann noted.

Weissmann said it was not only “fascinating” that Necheles has not yet done any cross-examination, but also that she “has not signed certain statements” with the court. “I’ve never seen that before,” he said, calling it a possible red flag. “I guess ethically she didn’t think she could sign it,” he continued. “She is independent and will not do anything that she thinks crosses a line.”

“Everyone knows Susan Necheles is great,” Weissmann added. “It’s strange she’s not here.”
