Studies show that environmental factors can influence urology

SAN ANTONIO, May 3, 2024 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Abstracts presented at the annual meeting of the American Urological Association show that microplastic particles have been found in many human tissues, including testicles, that certain pesticides may be linked to prostate cancer and some drinking water in California has been linked to the incidence of bladder cancer.

Researchers will present findings from environmental and urological health studies May 3 to 6 in San Antonio, Texas. Stacy Loeb, MD, professor of Urology and Population Health at NYU Langone Health, moderated a virtual press session with the abstract authors and provided key insights into their research.

“It’s great that these studies are happening so we can get a better idea of ​​how some of these environmental factors can affect things like fertility and urological cancer risk,” said Dr. Loeb. It appears that in these cases more studies are needed to follow up on these findings at the individual level.”
