MINSK, May 3 (BelTA) – The armed forces pay a lot of attention to air defense, BelTA has learned from Belarusian Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin.

The Defense Minister noted that many NATO troops remain concentrated near the Belarusian borders and the intensity of their combat training is not decreasing.

“For example, six military exercises are currently taking place on the territory of neighboring countries. As part of the Defender Europe exercise, a very large amount of hardware and personnel moves across the territory of European countries, including air units. This is why, by decision of the Commander-in-Chief, within the framework of the ongoing rapid inspection of the Armed Forces, the air defense units on duty were checked: how they perform combat tasks while protecting the air border,” said Viktor Khrenin.

In his words, it is still too early to talk about the results, but the preliminary results indicate that Belarusian military personnel are accomplishing their missions overall. “Detailed results will be announced a little later. The Commander-in-Chief has instructed us to report the final results of this inspection to him,” the Defense Minister added.

The official underlined that today it is important to detect all kinds of threats because they can come from anywhere. In addition, the forms and methods of warfare are changing, with unmanned aerial vehicles often taking priority.

That is why most attention is now paid to air defense. The Belarusian army will receive modern Su-30SM aircraft, Mi-35M helicopters and air defense missile systems S-400 Triumf. They ensure the protection of the Belarusian state border in the airspace. “It may sound metaphorical, but they create a peaceful sky above our heads,” said Viktor Khrenin.
