Denmark is expected to soon change some rules for the reunification of spouses

Denmark’s Ministry for Immigration and Integration has proposed changing the rules applicable to family reunification of spouses.

The proposal in this regard was submitted by the ministry earlier in April and its main aim is to make it easier for couples to reunite, SchengenVisaInfo reports.

As the Danish authorities have explained, if the Ministry for Immigration and Integration’s proposal is adopted, spouses in Denmark will no longer be required to pass the Prøve i Dansk 3 or an equivalent Danish language test to demonstrate their integration.

Instead, it will be possible for spouses to meet the reunification requirements regarding integration by proving five years of full employment, which involves significant communication in Danish.

To ensure that the couple jointly meets the integration requirement, the spouse in Denmark can also comply by documenting that he has had a regular, full-time job for five years, which involves significant communication in Danish.

However, Danish authorities have explained that if the proposal is approved, applications submitted before July 1 can also be processed under the new rules.

This allows spouses in Denmark to bring their partners to the country while meeting a reduced financial guarantee and proving integrated through their work experience, which involved communication in Danish for at least five years.

As for those whose applications for the reunification of spouses were rejected before the proposal was made on April 11, because they did not meet the requirements that still apply, the Danish authorities stressed that they will have the opportunity to submit a new application after the proposal to serve. has been approved.
